2006 Year in Review
Sunday, December 31, 2006, 11:11 AM

(2005) (2004) (2003)

It's that time again, folks. Time to figure out what the hell I've been doing over the past 12 months and determine what it all means, why it all happened, and where we're headed from here. Let the review begin!

It's funny to think that a year ago today, Sara and I were driving to Mahwah, New Jersey, to pick up my car from an auto repair. It was the first full weekend Sara and I were spending with each other since deciding to "try out" the long-distance thing, and my car had broken down on the way to her place.

On the drive back to Mahwah, I told her about my "plan," which was to see how things went for the next year, then possibly move in together. A year later, things are great; the plan is still intact, but we're faced with the fact that moving isn't incredibly easy without one of us just packing up and leaving. And unfortunately neither of us has that kind of spontaneity. But fret not! We're figuring it all out, and it will happen. It's just a matter of when ... and how.

One thing I can say about 2006 is that it has made hard-to-achieve things seem easier. Or more reachable, I should say. Among these is my own business (or, The Empire, as I like to call it), which suddenly seems much more than a possibility and more like a definite part of my future. Sure, plans could change. I could wake up one day and change my mind, but that would be the only reason why it wouldn't happen. Doing it is somehow just as easy as not doing it; the hard part is deciding whether or not to do it in the first place.

I guess. I don't really know what I'm talking about. Point is, I'm starting my business.

I suppose I could recap all the great things that have happened this year ... fun vacations, wild drunkenness and the like ... but you could just read my archives for that stuff. I feel like a lot of things changed in the past year, but it's hard to say how. I definitely feel older, more so than I did in the previous few years, but by no means old. My hair is thinning on the back of my head a bit. I'm talking constantly of retirement plans, company mergers, and annoying political figures. But I'm young, happy, and still in a position to do things like move across the country, start a business, and spend $600 on a PlayStation just to sell it again on ebay. It's great!

So, that's about all I have to say on 2006. 2007 should be pretty interesting too, so stay tuned.

Happy New Year!

My Holiday Plans
Sunday, December 24, 2006, 10:17 AM

Lots of driving to do over the next few days. Today, I'm off to the poconos to visit the parents. Tomorrow, we drive down to the Philly area to visit my sister. And later in the day I'm heading up to Sara's, where we have a long list of movies to watch, including The Matrix Revolutions, It's a Wonderful Life, and of course the new Rocky movie, among others. I don't particularly mind the driving because I have about 18 hours of Howard Stern episodes on my iPod and nothing passes the time like quality dick & fart jokes. I have to say, I'm pretty excited about my gifts for people this year. Every few years, I somehow manage to get presents that I believe everyone will actually want, and I'll tell ya, this year Uncle Mike really hit the nail on the head.

I leave you with some pics of my trees from this year and last year. What's funny is how sad last year's tree looks in comparison to this year's, but last year's cost more than twice as much. And either way, they're both good guys.

Merry Christmas!

Send your pictures to dear ol' Capt. Noah

If my camera's batteries were functional, I would be posting pictures of my:

- First new alarm clock since elementary school
- Shiny new iPod (Sarizzle is the best, isn't she?)
- Christmas tree, all set up and decorated
- No-longer rechargable camera batteries, which have served me well since 2003
- Mysterious paper towel roll, which strangely rips away from the perforation at the bottom of every sheet
- Odometer, which is soaring past 113,000 (nearly 20k miles in less than a year!)

For now, you'll just have to picture all these amazing things in your imagination. And, of course, wait another few weeks before I post again.
