[insert pic of me yawning here]  a glimpse 7:30 in the morning I'm sitting at my desk writing a quick 3-line email when I realize I don't know how to spell chock-full. Is one word or two? Two L's or one? Dash or no dash? I have a 10 minutes before I have to leave and write about leather-upholstered sofas all day (tufted or tight back? roll arms or wedges?), and I'm looking up CHOCK-FULL on dictionary.com, because I'm not sending that damn email without getting it right, even if the person on the other end doesn't give a shit whether I spell it with X's and Deutsche umlauts. On the way to work, I stare at subway ads like I'm taking the SATs. A) Doesn't make sense. B) Needs punctuation. C) Needs English. D) All of the above. E) All of the above except for A, B, C, and D. I wrack my brain for 10 hours over synonyms for plush, luscious, lush, luxurious and alluring. I come home, eat a cheeseburger in front of the monitor, looking for new ways to say, do this! buy that! read what the writer is writin' ya! I read the news at the speed of half-retarded 9-year-old with ADD. I skim, find a sentence I like, start from end, re-start from the front, re-read paragraphs and open 3 new browsers before I get to the end of the article. Sara tells me I haven't posted in my blog in a while. So true, and every day I think of something new I could write. And I would if only I weren't so ... damn ... tired ... of words. |
