It's back! Huge semi-annual DVD sale at DeepDiscount ... ![]() ![]() Everyone's weaving it. I went out with some coworkers for the first time last night, which turned out to be a pretty good stress-reliever. Partly because I survived the night without stumbling into social awkwardness around a bunch of people I've never really spoken to before. But mostly because I was glad to see that I'm surrounding by people who hate their jobs just as much as I do. We went to a dive bar in midtown to say goodbye to two people who were leaving the company. I should note that eight people have now left our department since I started -- half of them copywriters. It's a pretty telling statistic when you consider I only started less than nine months ago. But it was a fun night and definitely gave me some hope that I can stick this thing out, at least for a few more months. We drank, made fun of the boss, talked sports and genuinely had a good time ... which is not something I thought would happen. Around 9, the group left for some late-night bowling a few blocks away. I said goodbye then, wisely, because one thing I've learned about anything related to my job is that the great moments are always fleeting. It was best to leave on a good note. ------------ Got some fun new things for the apartment recently. Dining table (with self-storing leaf!), chairs, huge vintage poster for the living room, and, a few months ago, a rug. A weekend trip to the Long Island Ikea turned out to be pretty fun, albeit somewhat insane. New Yorkers shop almost as bad as they drive. They cut you off with their cars. They stop in the middle of aisles. And the congestion is so bad on the weekend, it takes you an extra 20 minutes to get to register, no lie, especially when no one knows where the hell they're going. I did happen to see a shoplifter take off with some goods though. Or, well, I assumed that's what was happening. While I was driving around looking for a spot to pick up our new furniture, I watched a fat Ikea employee sprinting as fast as he could after some kid running from the store. The kid look mighty frightened, looking over his shoulder constantly. But he was easily getting away. It was a weird experience because this was happening right next to me as I drove down the lot. I thought about pulling over and asking the employee if he wanted to hop in, since clearly he wasn't in any shape to be exerting himself like that. But instead I just laughed and kept driving. It's the NY way. ------------ Still no pictures for you, sorry. Problem is, I never really go anywhere. And when I do, the camera never comes along. Now it's getting all cold again, so I don't even want to go outside. Whine whine whine. ------------ Oh wait. There is this ... ![]() ![]() |
